reading comprehensively

A student gave me an interesting perspective. He showed me some coding for JAVA he is writing and said, “You’ll see words in here and know what they are, but you probably can’t put it together and get meaning from the entire thing.  That’s the way I feel about starting Spanish IV.  I know the words.  I can’t seem to pull them together for an overall meaning.”  I like it.  I’m going to think on this one and see if I can use that perspective in determining my approach to new reading in the class.
